For those of you who have been watching the latest installment of "Making the Band" - I know it looks like Day 26 is headed south...but before you write them off as another one of Diddy's failed pet projects, check out the new album, "Forever In a Day." And by "check out," I mean purchase.
Upon first listen, I was less than impressed...I felt like some of the songs were left over from the debut album. I kinda agreed with Que, who wanted more uptempo and diverse joints (he clearly lost that battle)...but here's the thing: when you have a group with all 5 members talened enough to sing lead, a group with voices so rich that you just want to wrap them around you like a blanket - even the not-good songs dont sound quite so bad.
What am i saying? these boys have talent, plain and simple! And the good joints far outnumber the other ones.
The lead single "Ima Put It on Her" is a nice summertime dance track, followed on the album by a collab with TPain. The other two songs you saw on the show, "Stadium Music" and "So Good" are also among the standout tracks. Songs like "Babymaker," with lyrics like "This is the babymaker/after we lelave the club i'll make you my baby later" come off a little amateur-ish, like a song best saved for someone with less talent, like Omarion.
Then you have "Then There's You" with the mark of one Schaefer Smith (bka Ne-Yo) all over it. If you're a Ne-Yo fan (Like me) you'll enjoy it. If not, then...skip to the next dance track "I Need That" produced by Jermaine Dupri.
For me, the best song on the album this go round is a lush, slow-tempo song written by Que and Dawn. "Perfectly Blind," in terms of production, vocal arrangement and lyricism, is just a perfect song. It's one of those songs that let the boys really show off their artistry and range.
Most of the time, ppl want a clear-cut superstar (which is why they hate a team like the Pistons, where everybody plays well but no one stands out.) But with Day 26, you have 5 stars. Yes, I'm partial to the gruffness and soul Robert possesses, and the style and effortlessness of Big Mike's vocals. But honestly, each member is coming into his own identity, and you hear that a little more on this album. There's still room for growth, but Day 26 is definitely headed in the right direction and can be a group with staying power.

I'm sorry Miss D: I have to disagree with you on this one because just watching them on television makes me want to throw up. They act like little babies and when I hear a song I don't want to know about their ways, I just want to hear their music and use my imagination. Seeing them just makes me not want to hear them. And anyone who works with Diddy will not make it. The last superstar that he had was Big and once that music died, so did Bad Boy.
