Recession My Azz

The NFL announced yesterday that it will be laying off 10 percent of its workers in ANTICIPATION of a downturn in sponsorship and ticket sales because of the current economic climate.
They acknowledge this season went well - but they are still firing people IN CASE next season does not....Well, I would hate to be fired for an event that hasn't even taken place yet, but the NBA, MLB and NASCAR have already laid people off, and media conglomerate Viacom is getting ready to do the same.
I cannot believe this is happeneing, considering the role of sports and entertainment in times like these. When times are hard, vehicles of escapism rise in popularity, usually. No, people may not have $90 for a ticket to a game and gas money to get to the venue, but they'll buy a beer and watch it on TV, which means you should be able to sell advertising space, right? So HOW are these industries suffering?
Keep in mind, these are industries I want to get into. I've gotten responses back like, "We have decided not to hire for this position," or "This job opening is suspended indefinitely."
The job market is tough...I hear it every day...but "The soul of the sluggard desireth and hath not: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat."
SOMEBODY gets to stay when everyone else is getting sent home...SOMEBODY is still getting hired somewhere to do a job they love....
SO WHY CAN'T IT BE US????

Miss D: I hear you, but I feel that everyone is doing some restructuring and reogranizing in with the idea that a new government is coming and they don't know what to expect. Something in the mix is not right because how all of a sudden when the new administration comes in or is expected to take over as the ratings have shown that Obama would most likely be the new PResident, every major business is asking for a bailout or is laying off in record numbers. No! what is going on is people and companies are using this new change to make changes to themselves and weed out who they don't want in there and start over. It does not seem right, but that is America. We are the land of excess and indulgences and when big brother wants to hog up things for himself and his own, they do what they are doing right now, laying off and begging for help. Remember though that as the prophet said, I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread and yes Miss D, what is for you is for you no matter what happens to someone else, you will be the one who get that position. I have seen it happen with people who did not even have the credentials or requirements for the position and they are at the top of hierarchy. So keep your faith in God and remember that Joseph wasn't qualified by Egypt's standard, but he was qualified by God's standards. You are more than a conqueror because of HIM.

Sorry for writing so much. Just adding my two cents. Thanks, Surabi
